DUTY ON WOOL.
The Argus ” message of March 7, from New York gives the following information which will interest everyone Sir H. Parkes states officially that the Canadian Government has decided, after considering his sugges tions, to adopt them entirely as far as in their power. The Government will, as soon as practicable, lay before the Dominion Legislature a proposal for-the entire remission of duties on Australian wools. Sir Henry Parkes also states officially that, with the object of open ing un commercial intercourse between the Dominion and the Australian colonies and New Zealand, direct steam communication from Montreal to the colonies will be commenced in a very short time. The Dominion Parliament being in session, the Governor-General of Canada invited the Leaders of both sides of the Legislature to meet Sir Henry Parkes at dinner, on which occasion a discussion took place, in which the Marquis of Lome and Sir John Macdonald, the Premier, took part on the subject of opening up a direct trade between Montreal and Sydney. Sir Hemy Parkes will return from England ▼iS Canada, and he has accepted an invitation to further consider the'subject then. . Canada has, however, agreed to admit Australian fine wools free of duty."
