SALE OF THE OTAGO RUNS.

: The sale of the Otago runs was concluded yesterday, and resulted in a total" being realised of £68,854, which is nearly double the upset, the amount of the latter being £37,216. The bidding yesterday was scarcely so brisk as on the . first day, several lots going at the upset. Only three runs out of the 170 were passed in, and the highest price yesterday was £9lO for one, of which the upset was £220. The whole original run of which the above lot, was a subdivision, was put up at the upset of \ “ £1435, and the total price realised was £4285, two out of the nine’ sub- • divisions going to new occupants. In another case in which the present holders rebought an entire run of eight subdivisions. the upset was £1257, and the 1 price realised £3060. In another case of six subdivisions, at an upset of £1457, the present holders repurchased the whole at £3060. The lowest price... obtained was the upset of for 5500 acres, a sale that was greeted with, congratulatory applause. The buyers were solely of the runholding class, am'. , it remains as a result of the sale that only in one case has what might be termed a small settler secured a run. Indeed, so far as could be ascertained,,: the bidding was mainly confined to the runholding class. The total result of the sale is—price realised, £68,854; present rentals, £24,659 ; upsets, £37,216; three runs oat of 170 unsold.
