TIMARU HIGH SCHOOL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held last evening at the Education Office. Present—Messrs Chisholm (Chairman), Sutter, Clulee, Belfield, LcCrcn, and Revs. Barclay and Gillies. MrJDawson, the Rector, was also present. A letter was read from the Clerk of the Waimatr County Council, stating that Mr G. I'. Clulee was appointed to represent 'lie Council on the High School Board. Mr Clulee, who had been paid Secretary to the Board, of course resigns that position, but he offered to perform the duties gratuitously till another was appointed.
It was resolved to invite applications for the post, at a salary of £6O per annum.
A letter was read stating that Mrs Pearson, the recently appointed lady teacher, would be in Timaru by the middle of March.
The Hector's report stated that at the opening of the school last month there were in attendance 74 boys and 57 girls. It was resolved to appoint an additional master, at £l5O per annum, Mr Clulee reported on six of the Board’s reserves. Generally they were in good order, with the exception that in nearly every instance the boundary fences wanted trimming very badly, and the inside fences on the farms were in many cases dilapidated. It was resolved “ That the Secretary be instructed to enforce the conditions of lease with respect to trimming fences, &c.” Resolutions were passed to plough, lay down, and plant the girls’ schoolground, and to request the Levels Rond Board to shingle the roads from North street to the school.
Accounts amounting to £l5O 8s 3d were passed for payment. Mr LeCren gave notice of a motion to make the terms of the school three a year, as at Christchurch College. The meeting then terminated.
