A general meeting of subscribers to the above library was held in the school - house on Wednesday evening, and presided over by the Bev. L. 0. Brady. A full and exhaustive report of the Committee’s proceedings since the last meeting was read by the Chairman and unanimously adopted. It was shown by the report that the sum total of £ll2 4s is the gratifying result of the Committee’s efforts in aid of the library. • The other matters of public importance were also severally dealt with. On the motion of Mr George Laurie, seconded by Mr Moyle, the meeting showed its approval of the Committee’s work during their term of office, by unanimously re-electing them for twelve months, with power to organize and fully establish the library on a sound and satisfactory basis. The Chairman on the behalf of the Committee thanked the meeting for such an assurance of continued confi dence, and said that the chief aim and desire of the Committee could only be to inculcate and foster a general healthy enthuiasm for literary tastes. A hearty vote of thanks was unani monsly passed to Mr McPherson for his untiring energy in collecting so large a proportion of the subscriptions received ; and a similar vote was passed to the Chairman, for efficiently discharging the duties of his office. It was resolved —“ That the subscribers, if they desired it, should be permitted to suggest any book or books within the ensuing fortnight, prior to the list being completed before forwarding the order by the next mail via San Francisco.
