THE OTAGO RUNS.

The “ Mount Ida Chronicle,”a journal published in the heart of the Otago pastoral country, has the following upon the sale of the runs: — The authorities have been thoroughly consistent in their action in regard to the runs. Almost everything that was asked for was promised, but none of the promises have been kept, either great or small. The lands of Maniototo were to be • classified twelve months before the time of sale, but it was never done. The sale of the leases of the runs was to be fully advertised in the neighboring colonies, and in Great Britain, but of course it was not done. Everything necessary was to be effected in plenty of time, but the contrary is the case. The Board was prevented from resolving upon the subdivisions till the last moment. The maps were to be in Dunedin on Friday, 27th—so we were advised by telegraph. Some of the sheets were there, but the most important ones ; those relating to Maniototo—have not come to hand, and no one knows when they majr be seen. Scarcely four weeks have to elapse before the sale. In the interval intending rohasers have to inspect between two and three millions of acres of land, divided into 173 runs, and have besides, to make all their monetary arrangements. We do not like to impute motives, but we must say that if the whole thing is not a job it could not have been better managed had it been intended to make it one.
