[By Telegraph.] Wanganui, Feb. 1. This morning at the rifle butts Volunteer oeorge Henry Watts, of the Wanganui Rifles, whilst marking at the 400 range, was accidentally shot by bandsman Mettan, of the same corps. Watts bad removed the danger signal, and unaccountably came out in front of the target just as the shot was fired. No blame cun be attached to Mettan. The bullet entered behind the right oar and came out oyer the right temple, carrying away a large portion of the brain. Watts ■till lives, but no hopes are entertained of his recovery. Be is 28 years of age, single, and a furniture polisher. He was much respected as a volunteer and fireman.
