GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Board was held on Tuesday, the 10th inst. Present —Messrs Wm. Postlethwaite, F. R. Flatman, J. Godsell; W. XL Slack, and W. Deßenzy. Proposed by Mr Flatman, seconded by Mr Deßenzy, and carried unanimously—- “ That Mr Wm. Postlethwaite be reelected Chairman of the Board for the ensuing year.” The minutes of the last meeting were then read and confirmed.

The following correspondence was read and considered :

From the Postmaster, Geraldine,doted 23rd December; asking the Board to become a subscriber for the “ New Zealand Postal Guide” for the year 1882.”

Resolved —“ That one copy be ob tained.”

From the Geraldine County Council, dated 28th day of December, 1881, asking information re rates collected by the Geraldine Road Board for the year ending 31st March, 1880. The Clerk stated that the information had been furnished.

From Mr Gunn, manager of the Orari Station, dated 6th January, asking permission to erect a gale on the road intersecting Reserve No. 349.

Resolved—“ That the same be granted on the usual conditions.”

From the Manager Liverpool, London, and Globe Insurance Company, enclosing policy on two four-roomed cottages. Resolved—“ That the Clerk give notice that another building has been orectbd on the north-east side of the insured buildings.”

i From the District Land Registrar, dated Dec. 20, with reference to the ownership of several small sections in the district, requesting the Board to emploj an agent to attend personally at the office to obtain the information required. The Chairman undertook to get the information when next in town. The recommendations of the annual meeting of ratepayers, with reference to dividing the district into wards, and bringing the Regulation of Local Eleo tions Act into force were then con sidered, and the following resolution, proposed by Mr Flatman and seconded by Mr De Renzy was carried—“ That as nothing can be done in the matter of dividing the district into wards and bringing the Local Elections Act into force to affect the working of this Board before the next Annual Election, the public meeting be postponed until after harvest, so giving country rate payers a chance of attending.” The Overseer’s report was read, considered, and the following resolutions passed thereon. (1) That the work be done as suggested by the Overseer at the Geraldine traffic bridge; (2) Clerk to write to Mr Connolly re right-of-way through his section to the proposed footbngdge at Speeohley’s corner; (3) That the work he done at Hilton crossing in constructing a weir and Bridge over the Kakahu ; (4) Work to bo done as applied for by Mr

Young over the Downs; (5) Board I approve of getting notice boards re weights crossing over bridgee; (6) Also of surface men going harvesting. Accounts to the amount of £464 18s 5d were passed for payment. The Board then adjourned until the 2nd Tuesday in February at 10 a.m.
