ORANGE INSTITUTION.
A new Lodge in connection with the above, named the “ Friendship,” of the Order and No. 5 of the District, was formally opened last evening under authority of the Grand Lodge. The Past District Master Bro. J. M. Shepherd having been duly installed as Master, the following officers weie appointed : Deputy Master, Bro. Goddard Jackson ; Treasurer, Bro. A. Mahon ; Secretary, Bro. H, McCracken; Chaplain, Bro. T. Peace. The Lodge having been called to order, a number of clearances were received from members of the old Lodge and acknowledged, and several influential citizens were initiated and introduced. Further .applications for admission were held over for consideration, and the Lodge was ordered by the Master to assemble for the transaction of other business on Monday evening next, tho same evening in the month to be the regular time of meeting, A committee consisting of the Master, Deputy, and Treasurer, were appointed and empowered to prepare all necessary material for the working of the Lodge, the sum of £47 10s being placed to their credit for this purpose. This concluding the formal business the Master vacated the chair, and the brethren enjoyed a very jovial two hours. The following toasts were proposed :—“ The Queen,” “ the Imperial Grand Master,” the “ Grand Lodge of the Middle Island ” coupled with the name of G.M. Christie (with honors), responded to by Bro. P.D.M. Shepherd ; the “ Charter,” “ Distressed Orangemen all over the world ” (in silence), “ First Officers of the New Lodge,” responded to by Bro. DM. Goddard Jackson. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very pleasant evening to u close.
The new Lodge bids fair to become, in a very short time, both strong and influential, if the meeting of last evening may bo taken as a guage of its future success.
