The harbor looked very business like this morninqr, with three fine steamers, the Hawea, the Westport and Waitaki, lying inside the Breakwater, the last alongside the wharf. The Waitaki was quickly discharged into trucks, and bales of wool tumbled into her in twos through two hatches at once, and a locomotive was kept busy bringing down full trucks, and taking empty ones away. The Hawea lay off a little, and was tendered by surf boats. She is a noble vessel, and many were the congratulations passed on the wharf at so fine a boat making her first call, and in such good company. The Waitaki and Hawea were to sail this evening, the Westport not till to-morrow. There was a little race between the Westport and Waitaki, for the berth at the wharf this morning, the latter proving too quick for her competitor, who had to take an inferior place.
