(Per Pbess Association.) Electoral* Napier, Nov. 16. Mr Sutton addressed the electors of Clive last night. He was enthusiastically received and obtained a unanimous vote of confidence. Invercargill, Nov 16. Mr Shanks has retired from the contest for Mataura. Mr Richardson and Captain McKenzie spoke at Mataura last night, both receiving votes of confidence. The former said if he had been in the Assembly last year, he should have supported Mr Hall. The Mataura Roll contains 1500 names. A Catholic CharityPatea, Nov. 16, Bishop Redwood having directed a collection throughout the diocese, for establishing a Catholic * Children’s Charitable Institution at Nelson, £l9 was subscribed here. First Mayor* Mr G. F. Sherwood has been elected first Mayor of Patea. Curious Deaths* Tauranga, Nov. 16. A Native named Tawhinga was drowned at Ohinemutu, on Monday night. Ho went into a hot path on the edge of Lake Rotorua, and apparently fell asleep. Ho was found drowned the following morning. Soon afterwards a Maori woman was found drowned in a hot bath near the post office under iimilar circumstances. a Flood. Invercargill, Nov. 16. The Bluff township was flooded last night by an extraordinary heavy rain. The water was three feet deep in some places.
