MISCELLANEOUS.
Statistics show that out of every 500 men' who feel in the spring that it would be nice to have a little garden, only six ever get further than feeling so. Six is just the proportion of lunatics to every 500 of the population. An ingenious railway caterer, who had been in the restaurant business 17 years, has invented a sandwich made o f bread and meat. People who have eaten it say it is in all respects equal to the old-established basswood and leather article, and is even considered more palatable and wholesome. It has not yet come into general use. They were coming from the Ballarat races, and it was agreed that each one should tell a story, sing a song, propound a conundrum, or shout. It was Barney’s turn, and he gave the following Why is the name of the next Cup winner like an illicit still manufactory ? Because it is a secret still!” And there was a general chorus of, “ Oh ! horrible.”
