TIMARIT —THIS DAY. (Before R. Beetharo, Esq., R. MJ, T. W. Hall, H. Belfield, and W. 0. Beswick, Eaqs., J.P.’s.) drunkenness. A woman, a recent arrival from Dudedin, charged with being drunk and disorderly, was dismissed with a caution. alleged attempt to abscond. Abraham and Lewis Moses, who were committed in August last to take their trial at the Supreme Court on a charge of setting fire to their drapery store in Tiraaru,and were released on bail, were charged with attempting to abscond. Detective Kirby proved that he was bound over to prosecute the accused, and from information he received, he believed they were about to abscond, and he therefore laid an information against them and subsequently arrested them. G. Davies, of the firm of Davies and Murphy, Drapers, stated that the accused had offered them five cases of goods in one lot, and that they told him they intended to leave Timaru. A. J. Parsons, Licensed Victualler, stated that the accused went to him and asked him to go bail for them, as one of their previous sureties had quarrelled with them. They added that their brother in-law in Christchurch would indemnify him in case he lost anything by the transaction. The Bench decided to discharge the accused, but warned them that if they attempted to leave Timaru a warrant would be issued for their arrest immediately.
