FIJI NEWS.
[By Telegraph.] Auckland, Oct. 22. The Southern Cross arrived to day from Levuka, and brings the following ' items of news •' , The “ Fiji Times” says “As will be seen from our New Zealand intelligence, while Sir Arthur Gordon has been busying himself with affairs in connection with which his services were ‘ neither desired nor appreciated, matters I which are his own proper concern have I assumed a very serious complexion.” Cases of elephantiasis are very i numerous among the natives of Fiji. The owners of a German line of steamers intend to make a monthly service from Brisbane via Fiji to Samoa. The mast and bowsprit of a cutter of about 25 tons has been washed ashore at Lakemba. The Auckland built schooner Coral | Queen has been floated off the reef where she went ashore, and has been repaired. | The schooner Louisian has been , totally wrecked at Ninfore. j A Fijian on the Sar Levu Coast hurled ; a spear at bis wife. It entered her back t and pierced her lungs, causing death. The man was committed for murder.
