GERALDINE RACES. ? . First Day. [By Telegraph.] [FROM OUR SPECIAL REPORTER.] : Geraldine, Sept. 29. The weather was threatening this morning, but the rain kept off well. The attendance was not large, and there was very little batting. Lesure worked a totalisator, and the-,; hookmaking element was Very strong, but little betting was,done. Maiden Plate* of 40 bovb., distance, miles, Mr D. O’Brien’s Tasman, 7st slbs (W. Butler) 1 Mr W. C. Webb’s Gold Dust, ,7s t slbs (Hawkins) 2 Mr T. Lyford’s. Bijou, 9st 61b& J (Derntt) 3 Gold Dust cut out the running at the start, but Tasman kept very close and Jed after the first quarter of a mile. Gold, Dust put and agpin took till afer tpassing the Stand,/when;Ta,Bman agaihjwent to the front and tfience kept the lead to the finish, winning easily from Gold Dust by two lengths; ; Bijou an indifferent third; • Parlor Maid and Prophet oat of it. There was no betting. , Handicap Hurdle Eace of 16 sovs. about 2 miles, over eight flights of hurdles. Mr P. Butler’s Agent,. 12st 41b (O’Connor) 1 Mr Lyford’s Bijou, 9st 71b (Derrit) 2 Mr M. Hobbs’ Swindler, lOst r >"■, (Owner) 3 Mr De Eenzy’s Hunpingtpn, 9st 121 b, also started.
Hunnington led at the start, and was first over the first hurdle, closely followed by Agent, Bijou, and Swindler in tho order named. Hunnington had a lead and looked all over a winner, but ho ran round the third hurdle and lost his chance. Agent then took the lead and kept it to the finish, winning from Bijou by six lengths. Betting—4 to 1 bar one.
