CAUGHT BY A FLOOD.

[By Telegraph.] -.Carterton, Sept. 12. Mr Alfred Bhmesley, manager of Mr Henry Buraay’s station, Taratahi West, and formerly of Brogdcn and Co., was drowned on Saturday in the Wainganua river. In Company with Henry Hossiter, deceased was rabbit hunting bn an “Island in the river, when the latter rose. Hossiter suggested going down to the bridge, but deceased decided to cross and. was swept away. Hossiter bad a narrow escape. He way carrying <t swag. Deceased remarked before crossing that tin’s was the anniversary of the Himutaka railway accident, through which he was a sufferer. The body has not yet been found.- The river is very-high.
