TIMARU TOWN CLOCK.
■ Messrs W. Littlejohn, watchmakers, o£ Laiubton quay,' Wellington, have completed the large clock oidorcd foi cn cii' 11 on the Government Buildings nt Tuinii u. it is a turret clock, displaying the hours on four illuminated dials, cadi measuring six feet in diameter, and is said to he the first of its kind that has ever been manufactured in lN T cw Zealand. Some idea of the magnitude of -the' works may be gathered from the fact that the whole of tire machinery weighs no less than a ton and a half. The clock strikes the hour on a hell weighing 0721 b, while the pendulum is 811 long and 1501 bin weight. The various wheels are made of gun metal, and the pinions and arbors of cast steel. B} means of an ingenious contrivance, the clock is self illuminating. The local “ Post ” says that everything connected with the dock, which is fitted with Graham’s dead beat escapement, _ has been manufactured on Messrs Littlejohn and Son’s premises.
