TIMARU AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the Committee of this Association was held this afternoon. Present—Mr Teschemakor (President, in the Chair), Messrs McKerrow, McLaren, Kelland, Acton, .Davie, Elwoithy, l-J. Ford, Barker, Pringle, Hardie, Turnbull, Wright, and F. W. Stubbs, Secretary. Tlie Secretary read a list of gentlemen who had accepted invitations to act as judges at the forthcoming show. A list of class stewards was then arranged. Mr W. Grant was elected a member of the Association,
Some minor details of management were then discussed. A suggestion was approved that persons in charge of horses be requested to take care to keep the tickets (class and prize) conspicuous, and to assist in this it was decided to havoThe numbers printed on both sides, in . characters at least two inches in height.
Mr McLaren brought up the question of . railway tariff. The charges for carriage ’of stock were simply prohibitive, and on grain they were almost as had. The Chambers of Commerce were not stirring in the matter, and indeed it was scarcely a question likely to interest them. -The Christchurch Corn Exchange Company had taken action to represent the injustice to the Government, and he thought the Association should do what they could to support them.
it was resolved, oh the motion of Mr Turnbull —“ That this Association cordially endorses the action of the Christchurch Corn Exchange relative to the excessive charges on corn, stock, ami wnol cn the Canterbury railways ; And that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Christchurch to assist them in this master.” The-meeting then terminated.
