At the finnual meeting of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce yesterday resolution's were carried as follows :—On the motion of Mr Stout—“ That this Chamber deprecate the handing over of the completing of main lines of railway to public companies or private speculators.” On the motion of Air Stout—- “ That this Chamber are of opinion that it is essential to the interests of settlement, and consequently to the progress and prosperity of thecolony, that the Otago Central Railway be immediately proceeded with, and respectfully urge the Govermmnt to make provision during the present session of Parliament for continuing its construction.” On the motion of Air Prosser—“ That the Chairman be requested to communicate with the Government, urging them to take immediate steps to cany out the recommendations of the Select Committee with regard to direct communication with England.” Mr Larnach,who deliv red a Img address, was reappointed President.
