[Bhutek’s Agency.j Germany and the Vatican. Berlin, Aug. 31. The diplomatic relations between Germany and the Vatican, which for some time past have been somewhat strained, have now assumed a more friendly character. The credentials of the newly appointed Roman Catholic Bishop of Treves received official recognition to day from the Imperial Government. Great Loss of Life. Capetown, August 31. Telegrams are to hand from Port Elizabeth reporting that the steamer Fenton, 1088 ton«, owned by the Union Steamship Company, has been wrecked at Quoin Point, in the neighborhood of Algoa Bay. The vessel is reported to have had fully two hundred persons on board, and of these only twenty seven have been saved. The news of tho disaster has caused great excitement throughout the colony. The prompt advance of the Ameer Abdul Rahman is causing a reaction in his favor among the native tribes in the neighborhood of Ehelat, who are assisting him with money ahd arms.
