NOMINATED IMMIGRANTS.
At the Dunedin Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday, a man named Peter M'Ewan was sued for TOG, duo as passage money from Glasgow to Otago. It transpired in the evidence that the defendant had been in the colony for over sixteen years, and that ho had been nominated with his famil} r . He denied having signed the Bills produced in Court, and stated that ho had nothing to do with the arrangements for his passage to this country. Mr Allan, Immigration OJlieer, who appeared to support the claim, not being able in the meantime to prove the acceptance of the Bills by the defendant asked for a nonsuit which was granted. We understand that a largo number of immigrants who have not refunded their passage money as agreed will bo sued for its recovery.
