[Reuter’s Agency.] Melbourne, Aug. 13. The Victorian Government in view of the great increase of smallpox in Sydney, is now taking further precautionary measures against the spread of the disease to this colony A prospectus has been issued here, inviting subscriptions to the amount of £20,000, in the Moke Creek Copper Company, Wakatipu, New Zealand. Sailed, this afternoon—Union Co.’s steamship Rotomahana, for the Bluff. Oats are are quoted to-day at 3s 4d for feed and 3s 6d for Milling. • Subscriptions for shares to the amount of £29,000 in the Moke Creek Copper Company, Wakatipu, New Zealand, were covered in Melbourne market before eleven o’clock this morning. A cablegram received in Dunedin states that the Company has been successfully floated. Sydney, August 23. Two further cases of smallpox in the city are announced. The sufferers are Margaret Lindsay, residing in Sussex street, and a youth living in a lane off Abercrombie street. A report is current to-day that the Hon. Mr Campbell has made a donation of £IO,OOO towards the endowment of a new Anglican Bishopric. On Chong, a Chinese merchant, at whose house in George street the first outbreak of smallpox occurred, lias sent in a bill to Government for £2OOO for losses sustained through being placed in quarantine. It is stated that Doctors Cluee and Coffyn also intend, if necessary, to sue Government for damages sustained through their detention in quarantine. The former gentleman, it is said, will claim £IO,OOO.
