THE SUICIDE OF J. A. HOOPER.
0- - Ilegarding the suicide at Dunedin, Mr J. P. Hydes writes to the “ Lyttelton Times”: —“In your telegram headed ‘An Actor’s Fate,’ there is a mistake, which, for the sake of those personally interested, I hope you will rectify. As regards destitution, Mrs Hooper hag not been absent a week, and left with deceased a sum of money 'more than suliicient tor his weekly expenses, and was preparing to remit more this morning, and furthermore, the lady has supported the family by her own untiring exertions for some months. As to want of employment—Herr Landman offered him an engagement at tho current rates of salary, and so did Messrs Hamilton and Willis, but for some reason unknown, both offers wore refused. Thus it will be seeu that, whatever the cause of the sad act, no blame can possibly fall on those who arc left, and most sincerely mourn his untimely fate.”
