NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOR WORKS.
[By Telkghai'H.] New Plymouth, Aug. 23. A largely attended meeting was held at Bell Block last night, on the harbor question,when a large number of persons, from Waitara were present. Mr Connct; was in the chair. Mr French, a recent: arrival from Canterbury, moved—- “ That this meeting fully endorses the resolution passed at the New Plymouth meeting, and are surprised at the action taken by the House, when it is considered that tlie'high price of land at the Government laud sales was greatly owing to the expectation of a harbor being placed there. He spoke of Timaru, and said several thousands of pounds had been wasted there; but that was all forgotten now'- that the works hal proved a success, and s.»id that the harbor works at the Sugar Loaves possessed advantages not to he found at other places. The resolution was carried unanimously. Those present represented more than throe thousand acres of land.
