[Reuter’s Agency.] Melbourne, Aug. 16. Oats are quoted to-day at 3s 6d per bushel. Mr David Gaunson, the late member for Ararat, has issued a writ for libel against the “ Federal Australian.” The damages are laid at £SOOO. Sydney, August 18.. Mr Harris, the wife of the man Harris who died of smallpox at the Quarantine Station on the 7th insfc., is now attacked with the disease and has been removed into the infected enclosure.
At Mort’s grain sale today best samples of wheat brought 5s 2£d. Sailed, this afternoon —Union Company’s steamship Arawata for New Zealand. Brisbane, Aug. 18. ’ The Right Kev. J. Quinn, Homan ’ Catholic Bishop of Brisbane, died at half-past one this morning.
