Adelaide and New Zealand breadstuffs continue firm at 52s for Adelaide wheat, 38s for Adelaide Hour, ex warehouse, and 51s 6J for New Zealand wheat, ex ship. The President’s Condition. Washington, Aug. 17. This morning’s bulletin reports that President Garfield is still in a very critical state, but bis case is not considered hopeless. Afghan Affairs. Calcutta, August 16. Telegrams are to hand to day from Afghanistan reporting that the troops recently despatched by the Ameer to Khelat Ghilzai on the road between Cabul and Caudahar have now evacuated that place. The object of the movement has not transpired.
