LATE CABLE NEWS.
The Albion, which .arrived at the Bluff yesterday, brings the following cablegrams which, appeared in Aus tralian papers: London, Aug. 8. A strong anti-Jewish feeling is still manifested in Germany, and the Jews are being subjected to much maltreatment. At Baromvelde, the Jewish synagogue was attacked on Saturday by an infuriated mob, who wrecked the building and assaulted the worshippers. Owing to the wholesale bribery in the last general elections in several borough constituencies, the Govern ment has determined to act on the recommendation of the Commission appointed to investigate some of the most flagrant cases, and will propose in the House of Commons that seven boroughs be disfranchised. The strike among the nail rs in Staffordshire still continues, and both masters and men exhibit a determination not to give way. An immense meeting of the men was held to-day. It was attended by fully 30,000. An address was delivered inviting the men to stand firm, and not to consent to any reduction of wages. The men declared that they would never yield, but that starvation was preferable. Another plot to murder the Czar and his family has been discovered, and frustrated through the activity of the Russian police. A short time ago the Czar removed from the Castle of Gatchina, where he has resided since his accession, to the palace at Jeteroif, a small port at the mouth of the Neva, fifteen miles west of St. Petersburg. The utmost precautions were taken, but notwithstanding this it was only at the last moment that the suspicions of the police were directed to the inmates of a cottage near the Palace. They were suddenly arrested, and from evi denco there discovered, the police arrested sixty persons on suspicion of being concerned in the conspiracy. Subsequently the police received further information, in consequence of which they arrested two Geneva Nihilists who were believed to bo engaged in a similar design. A movement is on foot for the purpose of developing the industrial resources of Ireland. It is proposed to establish a company with a capital of L 1,000,000 for the purchase of a large quantity of the waste lands of the country-, and to reclaim and cultivate them. The prospectus of the company has been published, and the project has been favorably received.
Mr Bradlaugh is confined to ins house through illness. He complains of an injury to his arm, and his medical advisers report that erysipelas has set in.
The statement lias been made that a number of Fenian artisans arc about to leave America for Europe, in order to superintend the manufacture of infernal machines and “ conduct” explosions. The constructor of the dynamite machines which wore recently sent over from America, and seized on their arrival in England, lias been arrested. Tbe question of the right of Mr Brad laugh to take his seat in the House of Commons lias assumed such proportions that the Cabinet have resolved to take the whole subject into consideration, and will probably’ introduce such a measure as will obviate similar difficulties in future.
There has been lighting amongst tbe riative tribes in Znluland. John Dntin, one of the most prominent Zulu chieftains, has encountered and completely defeated another chief named Titimela.
Government, yielding to the pressure brought to bear by Parliament, lias agreed to compensate Edmund Galley for bis lengthened imprisonment, and subsequent transportation to Western Australia, for a murder of which be was innocent.
A discovery made in Belgrade, the capital of Sema, shows that a conspiracy had been formed for the assassination of Ibe Czar of Russia and the Emperor William of Germany. One prisoner who has been arrested is of high rank. He is married to a Russian Princess. A conspiracy to kill the whole of tbe Imperial family has been discovered in St. Petersburg!). Persons of high rank are implicated. Tbe United States Government has promised to suppress by every means in its power the manufacture bl dynamite machines. In the recent engagement near Candahar Ayoub Khan’s loss was heavier than that of the Ameer. The Uuranis hill tribes arc paying Ayoub Khan homage, and he is now preparing to advance on Cabnl. The Ameer Abdul Rahman is bolding Kbelat. A further number of arrests have been made in County Kerry, also at Nenagh, County Tipperary, for rioting and disturbances in connection with the Land League agitation. Tire application of Mr Brad laugh for a rule nisi for a now trial was made absolute, and returnable in November. Mr Bradlaagli addressed an assemblage of 10,000 people at Northampton. Great enthusiasm prevailed on his behalf. . The match for the English sculling championship is to take place in September. A terrible explosion lias occurred, at a cartridge manufactory in the town of Perpignan, France. Eleven persons were more or less seriously wounded.
