FREE TRADE AND PROTECTION.

London. August 1. A very strong feeling is growing in England in favor of modifying the present Free Trade tariff, with a view to establishing reciprocity with other countries. Complaints are made that owing to the policy of Protection maintained on the Continent and the United St?tcs, and in several of the most important colonies, the export trade of Great Britain is seriously injured and her industrial supremacy threatened. In the.manufacturing districts an agitation has been set on foot for the purpose of securing reciprocity, and with (his object a league has been formed culled the National Fair Trade League, which is receiving influential support.
