The case against Mr G. C. Miles, of Timaru, for thrashing the editor and proprietor of the “ Liberty ” was beard at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, this morning. The plea was put in of justification on account of great provocation. After hearing the evidence, the Bench fined Mr Miles Is,.and refused to make an order for plaintiff’s costs. The verdict of the Court is tantamount t^ served them right.” An emergency meeting of the Caledonian Lodge of Freemasons is called for tomorrow evening. Mr Watkins, of the Timaru Farmers’ Co-operative Society has been invite 1 to attend a meeting in Ashburton with the object of forming a Co-operative Society amongst the farmers of that district. Mr Watkins has consented to be present, and no doubt will give the farmers of the Ashburton district the fullest information on the subject. As far as Mr Watkins connection with the Timaru Society is conce ned he has a most successful experience to relate
