AMERICAN CHEESE
In an article upon American cheese the " Farmer ” says ;—“ The dairy industry is of great importance in America. American cheese has long flooded our markets and kept prises down at an almost ruinous point. The number of milch cows in the different States of America in January, 1878 was 11,300,100, valued at £62,187,473. The value of the cows and land especially devoted to their support is recto ued at £270,834,333 Last year the Americans paid for freight of dairy produce to Europe £258,333, and the cost per rail was £1,041,666. This has come it is said, by adopting improved methods. It will soon improve many of our cheesemakers into the bankruptcy court.”
