ROW BETWEEN MR HALL AND MR MAXWELL.
The following telegram, dated Welliuton, August 10, appears in a Southern contemporary:— It is rumoured that Mr Maxwell, Manager of Railways, has had a serious quarrel with the'Mon Mr Hall, in the tatter's capacity as Minister of Public Works ; that he has set Mr Hall at defiance, and he has sent in his resignation, which will only too gladly be accepted by the Government. The report comes from sources which appear to guarantee the correctness of the statement. The subject of quarrel has not yet been made known precisely, but there arc several versions about it, A denial is understood to be given to the report both by Mr Hall and Mr Maxwell, but it mb asserted that the denial is of an ollieial kind. Another correspondent telegraphed: —A serious row has taken place between Mr Maxwell and the Government, the former refusing to be dictated to on matters be thought he best understood, Mr Maxwell has resigned his position as General Manager of Railways.
