GREAT LIBERAL BANQUET.
[By Caulk], London, Aug. G. The banquet given to Her Majesty's Ministers by the Liberal party in recognition of the policy carried out by Government took place at the Mansion House to-day. All the members of the Ministry were present, including Mr Gladstone, whose health has greatly improved. Several important speeches were made, but the chief was that by the Premier in reply to the toast of the evening. In the course of his address, Mr Gladstone announced that measures would shortly be introduced for the reform of the procedure of the House of Commons. In alluding to the present state of affairs in Afghanistan, he stated that be deemed any internal meddling in that country would be a blunder, but the government would respect the integrity of Afghanistan. In conclusion, in referring to colonial affairs, Mr Gladstone stated that Ministers would relinquish the name of Englishmen before they would renounce the great duties they felt they possessed in connection with the colonies.
