HE ENGLISH CRICKETERS.
With regard to tho English team of professionals expected to visit the colonics during the coming season, Mr John, the Australian agent of the_ promoters, has received a letter from Gillywhite, dated 2nd June, which states that the Eleven are coming, as announced, Mr Conway is instructed to push on with all arrangements. Lillywhite saysWe can get tho best men—Ulyett, Bates, Lockwood, Pate, Rilling Barlow, Shaw, Shrewsbury, Barnes, Selby, Gunn, Morley, Mycroft, Scottou, Charlwood, and self." Further on he adds —“ I doubt if we shall bring (Jlyett. Emmet would come, but a new man would be better. I think Gunn is a last years’s colt, who is a fine bat. He made for his country (Notts) 74 runs against Sussex. Peate, another new man, is now Yorkshire’s best bowler.” Mr Conway since the receipt of the letter from Lillywhite, has written to the Englishmen to bring as fine a batting team as they can get to ■oppose the fine Australian bowling. The team will probably arrive about the end of November, but the date of the first match has not been definitely decided. —“ Leader.”
