[Heuteb’s Agency.l Melbourne, July 30. The concluding courses of the Waterloo Coursing meeting were run to-day. The Cup was won by Lady Maryborough, the Purse by Bapidio, and the Plate by Florimel. Sydney, July 30. In the libel action brought by Dr Birmingham, a Homan Catholic priest of Wagga Wagga, against the “ Sydney Evening News,” the defendants have consented to a verdict for £SOO. Princes Albert Yictor and George of Wales paid a visit to the works of Messrs Hudson Bros., the well-known builders at Bedfern. Brisbane, July 30. Three important libel actions Are
pending. One has been brought by Mr Hemmant against the “ Observer’’ for £SOOO damages, while the other two informations are laid by Mr Coote, a journalist, and Mr Parkins, Secretary for Lands,, against the “Evangelist Standard,” damages being laid at £IOOO and £2OOO respectively. A telegram is to hand from Rockampton stating that a nurse girl while walking with three children carelessly dropped one into the river, and then it is further alleged, drowned the other two in order to prevent their telling. An inquiry is being instituted by the police into the reported crime.
