At the Temuka R.M. Court to-day John Powell was committed for trial on a charge of stealing a gold watch and chain and £lO in cash, the property, of Joseph Selous, who was formerly billiard marker at the Clarendon Hotel, Timaru, but now residing in Temuka. The heavy sea last night caused the barque Portland to carry away her hawse piece, Captain Mills, the Harbor Master, proceeded on board this morning, to render assistance for the safety of the vessel. The Italia, a waterman’s boat, which was moored inside the Breakwater last night, was smashed to pieces against the concrete blocks, and the fragments floated out to sea. Messrs Boss, _ Sims and Co. invite tenders for altering a cottage. Mr J. E. Stanscll invites tenders for cutting, bagging, and delivering about 40 tons oaten hay.
