THE UNFORTUNATE CREDITORS.
Dunedin, July 25. At a meeting of creditors in S. Clayton’s estate to day, the total assets were shown to be £12,000, and liabilities £21,000. It bad been alleged that Mrs Clayton bad £4OO worth of jewellery, and' a quantity of furniture, and relative to this a portion of her evidence to the trustees was read. She stated that the jewellery in question cost only £79, and that it was such trashy stuff that Mr Clayton gave it to a pedlar to sell for him up the country. She did not know the man, and had never him since. Concerning the furniture, au but about £2O bad been removed before the bankruptcy, Mi Clayton had sent a man who took away a quantity, and Mrs Clayton had sold more in order to pay for her domestic wants. She asked for an allowance of £6 a week to meet her requirements till Clayton returned. Two motions were made —one for £3 and the other for £2 a week, but both were lost.
