GREAT FLOODS.
PORTIONS OF THE LINE WASHED AWAY.' THE EXPRESS STUCK UP. The following telegram was received by us this afternoon from a gentleman who left Christchurch in the express for Timaru : Rakaia,' July 20. In consequence of the continuous rain, the railway line at Templeton is very insecure as the line is flooded. The express is stuck here, as the line between here and Chertsey has been washed away in half-a-dozen places. There will probably be no communication with the South till to-morrow —if rain ceases then. The traffic on the Methven line is suspended. This morning’s passengers per early train for Christchurch had to alight when the} 7 ca me to the bad place on the road, and were taken on by another train. The train from Christchurch was expected through when we wen? to press, but ,th« time it may arrive here is very uncertain. The North train (Express) went up, but will probably not get farther than Rakaia to-night.
