A POLITICAL SKIT.
Another political skit, aimed at the Gladstone Government, is in the form of a menu for a banquet to follow the sale by the Premier of Her Majesty’s possessions. The bill of fare comprises a choice diversity of dishes, including peace soup, Irish stew with buckshot sauce, potted landlords, compotes of verbosity, hind quarter of British lion from Candahar, cabinet pudding with Birmingham sauce, prestige fritters, army mincemeat, milk-and-water cheese, haslied Turkey, with mulled Porte, cede cakes ad libitum, and whines in every variety. The banqueting-roora is to be
decorated with white feathers, and, in order, to avoid unnecessary expense, the ornaments are to be secured to the wail by “ a pennyworth of income tacks.”
