Christchurch, July 12. At the half-yearly meeting of the Friends of Labor Loan Society this evening, the report showed 286 members holding 854 shares. The capital of the Society now amounts to £3690. During the half year £2274 had been granted in loans to members. The profit amounted to £430, and a dividend of per cent was declared. Breach of PromiseDunedin, July 12. In the Simonson v. Joseph Solomon* breach of promise case, the defendant appeared, and said he was, and always had been prepared to fulfil his promise. The plaintiff’s counsel said this was the first they heard of such a thing, and the plaintiff pressed for the only reparation possible in the circumstances. The jury returned a verdict of £125.
