SECOND EDITION
A meeting of the Timaru A, and P Association took place on Saturday afternoon, Mr Tescheraaker in the chair, too late for notice in our last issue. Several alterations and additions suggested by the Committee appointed some time back to revise the prize schedule were adopted, and were as follows : In addition to prize of j£s for best merino rain in the yard, similar prizes be awarded in the Leicester and Lincoln breeds.
In the Romney Marsh class prizes w ere added for the two best ewes respectively above and under eighteen months old, and an extia class was added for sheep of the Down breed. In cross-breds and fat wethers the number ef exhibits was altered from five to ten.
In the limiter class first prize was increased to £5 ; second do £3 ; and a third of £1 was added, and it was decided that horses entered as roadsters and ladies’ hacks should bo allowed to compete in this class. Two extra classes were added, one for the best single harnesss horse, 15 hands or under, and another for the same over 15 hands.
In the pig classes the exhibit age was altered from six months to twelve, and the class of the best boar of any breed under six months was struck out.
In poultry it was decided that pens should contain but two birds, male and female, instead of three. The dog class was altered so as to comprise “ collies" only, and the prizes were fixed at £2 and £l.
An addition was made to the implement class,which now includes a prize of £3 for the best subsoil plough, and it was also settled that all three-furrow ploughs entered must be single, double, and treble, both separately combined, and capable of being used as subsoilers. The prize for the best gorse-cutting machine was struck out, as also was that for the best reaper and mower combined. Additions were made to this class as followsA prize of £3 respectively for single and double buggies, dog carts, and light American express wagons. In dairy produce the weight of the best jar of potted butter was altered from 28lbs to 14lbs, and it was decided that the same must be left with the Secretary a month before the show. In the agricultural produce classes, it was agreed that no exhibitor should be permitted to show more than one exhibit in each class ; that all exhibits must be of last year's growth, and that the names of the different varieties must b.e declared. The prizes for scoured wool and the best three loaves of bread were altered from £1 to £2, and from 10s to 20s respectively. The following resolutions were carried : “ That classes 38 and 39 be expunged from the catalogue.” “ That Glass 37 be restricted to f-bred sheep.” “ That a meeting bo held in 14 days for the purpose of ascertaining the amount of private prizes to be obtained in sheep, cattle, and horses, and that Messrs McKerrow, Wildie, Acton, and El worthy be a committee for the purpose,” “ That a class be added for the best pure-bred entire draught horse, also for the best pure-bred mare. The above must be entires in the Canterbury draught horse Stud Book. Vide Buie 12. That the Secretary be instructed to ascertain the cost of the records or annual journal of the Koyal Agricultural Society of England, and of the Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland.” The meeting then terminated.
