TIMARD—THIS DAY. R. Beetham Esq., R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Jane Smith, an old offender, was charged with being drunk, and was further charged with habitual drunkenness. The defendant pleaded hard to be let off, and promised to quit the town immediately. Fined 10s or 48 hours’ imprisonment, His Worship remarking that if she came before him again he would sentence her to three months’ imprisonment. A JUVENILE OFFENDER. Charles Baker, a lad 11 years of age, was charged with the larceny of a tin of preserved meat, valued at Is 6d, from the Government Landing Service shed yesterday. The little boy admitted taking the meat, and on his father, who was present in Court, promising to give him a whipping, he was discharged. BREACH OF THE BOROUGH BY-LAWS. William Lawrie, for neglecting to keep a light burning on a hoarding, was fined'in the nominal penalty of Is. Thomas Machin, charged with obstructing the footpath, did not put in an appearance and was fined 10s. CIVIL CASE. Jas. Bruce v. R. B. Sibly, claim £73 12s 7d, Mr Reid for plaintiff, the defendant conducting his own case on this occasion. It will be remembered that this case was recently before the Court and was withdrawn, the parties having agreed to submit the matter to arbitration. Mr Henry Marchaut was the arbitrator, and having gone carefully over the accounts he found that Sibly was indebted to Bruce in the sura of £66 19s 6d. This sum Mr Sibly refused to accept, and consequently the case came into Court to-day once more. The re-hearing, examination of Mr March ant, and cross-examination of plaintiff by defendant, occupied a considerable time, after which His Worship adjourned the case until 10 a.m. to-morrow morning, at Mr Reid’s request.
