Communications having been made to the British Government by the Boers who remained loyal during the recent war asking for some compensation in consequence of the withdrawal of British rule from the Transvaal, the Right Hon W. E. Gladstone has addressed a letter in reply, in which he states Government do not consider the petitioners entitled to an indemnification under the circumstances named. KidnappingIn the House of Commons to-day the Right Hon M. E. Grant Duff, Undersecretary of State for the Colonies, in reply to a question, promised that Government would take into consideration the question of taking steps to bring about an agreement between the Powers in order to counteract kidnapping and slavery in the Pacific.
