THE WORKING MAN’S LEAGUE.
SECOND EDITION
A meeting of members and those interested in the above movement was held at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Barnard street, last evening. About 250 were present. Mr Cowley was voted to the chair, and in a few brief remarks called upon the secretary to state to the meeting the objects of the Union, and to read the minutes of the last general Several members of the Committee addressed the meeting, impressing very strongly on their minds the great objects of the Union and the value of keeping in mind the strength that the Union would give to all its members by keeping them together, and affording them information < on all political and social questions. Also shewing them the value they should place upon their votes, as in exercising their votes in a proper manner, they could return to Parliament men to represent their views. The Secretary then proceeded to enroll fresh members, and after requesting all who did not intend, or had not joined, to leave the Hall, the meeting went into committee to consider the report of the Committee, when the following was adopted. “ That the officers be elected every twelve months.” “ That the Secretary, Treasurer, and Trustees, find bonds of £lO each.” “That the Governing Committee consist of twenty-one, and that an Executive Committee of seven be elected from same, five to form a quorum.” “ That the money of the Union be placed in the Post Office Saving Bank, to the credit of four trustees, two signatures to be sufficient for the payment of all accounts passed by the Committee." “ That two Auditors be elected from the general body, the Committee not to be eligible.” The meeting then resolved to leave all other business in the hands of the Committee until next general meeting. The Union has already been the means of causing over 200 men to register their votes under the residential clause.
