MEETING OF THE UNEMPLOYED.

A meeting of the Unemployed was held at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Barnard street, on Saturday evening last, for the purpose of forming, in Tiraaru, a Working Man’s League and Political Union. Mr. John Pearson was voted to the chair.

The meeting was addressed by Messrs Boardman, Savage, Mills, Cowley, and Macpherson. The League and Union was formed and the following were appointed : Mr John Pearson, Chairman ; Mr Boardman, Secretary ; and Messrs Macpherson, Barrie, Savage, Cowley, Bartlett, Mills, and Bowket were choseja as the governing committee. The objects of the League and Union are :

Tbfkeep a register of all members, and Ijeep them on the Electoral Roll. “ To arrange a system whereby the League may he kept fully advised as to the state of the labor market throughout the cdlony. " To form a Committee to advise and act in concert with kindred societies in Europe, America, and the colonies. "To organise some system whereby the full power of Liberalism may be inculcated in its members,” The Secretary (Mr Boardraan) proceeded to give the orders for relief to the destitute, and it was decided that he should take the destitute people and distribute the meat, fish, &c., to them. On the arrival at Mr Prices he (Mr Price) gave away a quantity of fish, to all that required it. Mr Peacock, when the men went to his place said that there was the shop, they could help themselves, and that if there was not enough, there w'ere casks of corned beef. After all had been supplied, to the extent of about £ls worth, plenty remained, Mr Moss Jonas has given his old auction rooms for meetings, free of charge and many of the retail tradesmen have given their support and joined the Union.
