WORK FOR THE UNEMPLOYED.

His Worship the Mayor received the following telegram this afternoon from Mr Turnbull, M.H.R.:— Wellington, June 20.

Mr Calcutt’s report has been received. The Government will at once call for tenders for the formation of the Fairlie Creek line in small sections.

The above is good news, and we are pleased to see that the Government has acceded lo the recommendation made by the Mayor to Mr Calcutt that the work be let in small contracis. This will give a chance to a really deserving and hardworking man of making fair wages.
