POST OFFICE SAVINGS BANK.

[Br Telegraph.] Wellington, June 14. A return has been issued showing the deposits received and and paid by the Post Office Savings Banks of the colony, together with the expenses of working the department for the year 1880. Throughout the whole colony there were 81660 deposits, amounting to £864,441; an increase of about £52,000 over the previous year and a larger amount than has ever been received in any one year before since the Savings Banks were ostabled. The withdrawals numbered 57,446, and amounted to £780,504; or about £90,000 Jess than in 1879. The excess of deposits over withdrawals was £83,937. In the previous year there was an excess of withdrawals over deposits of £63,781, The cost of management during the year was £3500, £530 in excess of 1879, 16,137 accounts were opened, and 12,217 closed during the year. There were 38,667 remaining open, and the total amount standing to the credit of all open accounts, inclusive at the close of the year of interest, was £903,765. The following are the figures for the principal cities in the colony;— Auckland, 9477 deposits, amounting to £106,719 ; 6610 withdrawals, amounting to £05,987; excess of deposits over withdrawals, £10,832 ; 1918 accounts were opened and 1422 closed, 5008 remaining ope n. Christchurch, 18,216 deposits amounting to £201,592; 13,770 withdrawals, amounting to £186,141; excess of deposits £15,451 ; 3815 accounts were opened and 2977 closed, 8732 remaining open. Dunedin, 17,365 deposits, amounting to £172,301; 11,733 withdrawals, amounting to £152, 273 ; excess of deposits, £20,026; 3004 accounts were opened and 2153 closed, 7284 remaining open. Wellington, 13,059 deposits, amounting to £117,268 ; 9775 withdrawals, amounting to £118,677 ; excess of withdrawals over deposits, £1398 ; 2159 accounts were opened and 2074 closed, 6718 remaining open.
