THE UNEMPLOYED.
The unemployed met once more at the Breakwater at ten o’clock this morning, Mr Savage being voted to the “ chair.”
Several speakers having addressed the meeting, those present proceeded in a body to the Borough Council chambers to meet the Mayor. His Worship was not there, but the men found a telegram from Government awaiting their perusal. An adjournment thereupon took place to the Breakwater again, when the telegram was read and ran as follows The Government can’t give an answer rc unemployed. Mr March is to see Mr Gallcott. If no news of him Mr March goes to Christchurch, but will return Monday or Tuesday.” The telegram was received with a good deal of disapprobation, which showed itself in groans and hisses. The meeting then dispersed. A further meeting is to be held tomorrow morning at ten o’clock, at the Breakwater, to hear the report of the Committee on wl.at further steps it may consider advisable for the unemployed to take in order to obtain work.
