A report is current that a Republican movement had broken out in Portugal, at Oporto, and that the insurgents bad fortified themselves in the theatre of that town. Intelligence received at Dundee indicates that the Newfoundland seal fishery of the present year has been exceptionally successful. The value of the catches of Dundee ships alone is estimated at £IOO,OOO. Sir Walter Nugent was charged before the Dublin magistrates the other day, on remand, with having forged a bill for £I7OO on the Royal Bank. The case is a painful one, it being alleged that the forgery was committed by Lady Nugent, against whom a warrant had been issued, but she has left the country. The prosecution not being prepared to proceed, the case was adjourned. The other night a fire broke out in the shipbuilding yard of Messrs J • and G-. Thompson, nearly ten miles from Glasgow. It originated in the saw mills and spread to the joiners’ shop, a very large building, containing machinery, and valuable shop fittings. The damage, which is estimated at £40,000 is covered by insurance.
