MISCELLANEOUS.

Last evening, says the Dublin “ Freeman’s Journal ” of March 11, a “relief expedition” organised. it is stated, by the Emergency Committee, left Broadstone Terminus by the 7.80 mail train for the West. The party which, all told, consisted of about twenty persons—laborers and gentlemen in command—occupied one third and one first class carriage. A number of shovels, spades, and picks formed part of the impedi menta of the expedition, the chiefs of which, it is stated, are armed to the teeth. It is understood that the destination of the “ relief ” party is the residence of a Protestant clergyman in a remote district of Connemara. Pastor Chiniquy continues to appeal to his Australian friends for contributions towards his “ Converted Priests’ Home.” The “ Sydney Mail says : —“ Far cows have long horns, and a Canadian object of charity has the enormous sentimental ad vantage of being a long way off. Other wise its partial dependence on the contributions of Protestants in this colony is inexplicable. It is only fair to add that there if no “ Converted Priest’s Home” in Sydney; and there is not likely to bo one.”

Attention is directed to Messrs Hutton and Co.’s eighth annual sale of literature fancy goods, stationary, and toys. vThe books are announced to be sold at the English published piice, whilst a deduction of twenty per cent will be made in other articles. Those requiring a new hat should inspect Messrs Cowan and Foster’s new lot of “ thatches,” which are of first-rate make and most alluring shapes.
