A CLERICAL INQUIRY.
Archdeacon Crawford, of Castlemaine, Victoria, held an inquiry at Huntly into several charges against the Rev. J. Weeding, pastor of the church at Ingle wood. The first charge was that he had acted discourteously to Miss Butt organist, and endeavored to get her dismissed for a trivial matter. A countercharge was preferred against Miss Butt for calling Mr Weeding an “ ignorant puppy,” and for neglect of duty. Mr Miller also charged Mr Weeding with saying at a funeral service of his father-in-law “that a man who gave his soul to the devil when living should give it
to tlie devil at the last moment, as he did not believe in praying at the last moment.” Mr Weeding was charged with using money collected in an improper manner. The proceedings were very irregular, and of a trivial nature. Miss Butt and Mr Weeding apologised to each other. Archdeacon Crawford will submit his report to Bishop Moorhouse.
