VACCINATION.
The London “ Daily Chronicle ” says : —“ Perhaps no greater proof can be cited of the protective effects of repeated vaccination, at certain intervals, than the testimomy recently furnished by the Local Government Board. It has been found, in the course of the present epidemic of smallpox, that the nurses employed in large hospitals, where patients suffering from that disease are exclusively treated, in no instance have died from its effects, and that in three or four cases where they have contracted the ailment, it has developed itself in a very mild form. This is the more remarkable as such an occupation, of course, results in these nurses coming into contact with the disease in its confluent form —the most malignant that can be experienced. But it must be pointed out that it is the practice to re-vaccinate these persons on their undertaking their duties.
